[Winona Online Democracy] >From personal experience I would say the main reason for high drug cost in the US is greed on behalf of the drug companies and the size of their lobby groups. My dad who was on medicare before he passed away last year was on a medication that cost him almost $1,000 per month, and of course medicare cover nothing. My brother was able through a friend to get the drug shipped to my Dad from India for $100 per month. It came in the exact same packaging from India as it did from the pharmacy in Minneapolis! It was even manufactured in the same factory in Germany. I have become a little jaded when I hear drug makers trying to justify their high US prices by saying it pays for research and new and better drungs. I also have worked in the healthcare industry for 23 years and have seen the type of perks and stuff that the drug reps hand out to MD's, clinics and pharmacies.
