[Winona Online Democracy] Duane and Emily. I will make this brief as I have many changes taking place in the Police Department that require my time. In her post, Emily, whom I found to be a very intelligent young lady when I spoke with her after the forum, states that the Everland Collective has no relationship to the Winopunx, yet Flossie Pattee, a Human Rights Commission member and a person who helped to organize the Hate Crime Forum, as a member of the Everland Collective, in her Everland Collective Forum post of 12 November, 2003 at 10:30PM states " How sad is it that we have to use faceless communication to talk about issues like anarchy and community. These are ideas that only work if we can talk to each other. The Winopunks, I'm one of them" , have more problems with this than anybody or any group I have come across. It's really easy to have drunken conversations about how we all agree that anarchy is ideal, but we can't seem to talk soberly about why there's virtually no action. I suggest that people take the time to look at the Everland Collective website and it's links to a Black Panther and Winopunx website. You will read very disturbing conflicts between Winopunx and Everland Collective members. How could the City, who sponsors the Hate Crime Forum allow representation from a group when the only information about the group appears on their website and website connections. On 31 October, 2003 Flossie Patte dropped off a flyer with the City Clerk's secretary for printing. The flyer showed the Everland Collective as a co-sponsor of the Hate Crimes Forum event. Monica then researched the Everland Collective on their website ( a site that in recent postings from members is called confusing ) . She spoke with Diana Miller, Andrea Essar and Eric Sorensen. They all agreed that the incluswion of the Everland Collective in this forum would not be appropriate. On 4 November, 2003 Flossie Patte came to the City Clerk's Office to pick up the flyers. Monica told her she and others had concerns regarding her group ( who is involved in the group and what is their role in the community). Monica asked that Flossie bring in information about the Everland Collective by 4 November , 2003 for review to help determine who this group is and their role in the community. 5 November, 2003. Flossie Patte did not bring in any additional supporting information and the flyers had to be printed to meet a deadline so they could be ready for the forum. On 7 November, 2003 Flossie picked up the flyers from the City Clerk. Monica explained why the Everland Collective was not included in the Forum. Flossie didn't question the decision and left. On 12 November, 2003 Flossie posted on the Everland Collective website that the Collectiev was helping to put on the Hate Crimes Forum. She included another post (I referred to it earlier) where she admits membership in the Winopunx. Deputy Chief Essar spoke with Deb Patte and told her that John Paul, from the Everland Collective, could be a presenter at the forum, however, he would not be listed as a presenter for the Everland Collective. I believe that there are some very intelligent and capable young people associated with the Everland Collective and I have spoken to both Emily and John Paul about the continuation of a dialogue. I have also supported the Everland Collective, under John Paul, to again utilize Holzinger Lodge for their functions as he has convinced me that he is willing to be responsible for the actions of all at the gatherings, to include no alcohol or drug use. They have had a couple of events since then and he has stood by his committment. The Winopunx allowed both the consumption of alcohol and drugs by very young people at the lodge and the City had to sever their use of the establishment for those violations. They continued to send different people forward to attempt to rent the lodge and were told on several occasions that due to the serious nature of their violations that they would not be allowed to use the facitily. It was just after that the the graffitti " Winopunx Resist" showed up on City Hall and many other buildings in Winona. I hope that this answers your questions. Again, I refer you to the Everland Collective web site.
