It's now almost one week later, and the fuss and
feathers is nearly all about the observance of a woman's breast in
an
accidental (?) uncovering. Is not anyone
else offended by the disrespect shown the
United States flag? And, is clutching one's crotch to emphasize music an
acceptable public display? What were the words being sung?

Notes: present Roy Nasstrom, Kathy
Seifert, and Randy Schenkat
A combination of
circumstances conspired against attendance: a computer error in WOD
postings caused only the group of people who have attended previous
steering committee meetings to have a tentative announcement of this
meeting( sorry about that- still don't see the message in the Archives).
Also, it was somewhat of an ominous day weather
wise..
The three of us
had a good discussion.
Some stats on WOD for Oct and Nov were
shared:
There were 125 posts in October and 175 posts in November;
both are well above the historical average of 3 per day. In
October, 5 topics garnered 75% of the posts. Those were:
school board formats(20%), Site teams(6%), Community Education(6%),
Walmart-zoning, signs, wages(15%) and Insurance (28%). There were 11 other
topics. In November, 5 topics garnered 80% of the posts. Those
were: Walmart-zoning, signs,wages(27%), insurance (18%),
WOD/NPR-Schild(15%), Council Pay Increase(12%), and Hate
Crimes-Evergreen(8%). There were 6 other topics.
It was
concurred that it was useful to look at traffic on WOD it this way, and
this summary technique will be use at each steering committee
meeting
It was also requested, what we learn every two months how
many individuals have newly subscribed, how many have unsubscribed and
resubscribed.
Kathy Seifert
shared some of the challenges of being a moderator. One was
the seeming stoppage of a threaded discussion when a synthesis of comments
are made and some further probing questions asked. Another was
a sense that some subscribers think moderators serve too much like
"cops". Another survey will be done of subscriber
perceptions of WOD in February (with questions being finalized at the
February meeting). Please submit any questions, you'd liked asked to
the full subscriber list by Feb 8th to Kathy
[EMAIL PROTECTED] We'd like to especially focus
on the process of how WOD is functiioning and what might be
improved. It was also pledged by Schenkat to do a much more prompt job in
getting survey results tallied and posted at web site for subscriber
reaction.
Regarding the perennial topic - of increasing
representativeness and numbers participating in WOD, a few
strategies were mentioned:
-Visit with Councilman Breza on
issues that will be emerging for City Council and see how WOD could work
with Council on reaching more citizens and tapping into citizen creative
thinking
-Visit with Winona Daily News to continue discussions of
how WOD can work more in tandem with WDN
-Work with the
planned community health care forums to engender more of a virtual
participation around the forums.
-Work to encourage more
University and High School student involvement in
WOD.
(please contact
Randy Schenkat if you have interest in any of the 4 strategy areas
above)
The next meeting
will be held on February 10( the 2nd Tues of every other month) at 4 pm in
the Wenonah Rooom of City Hall.
