I was hoping to avoid this topic, which has already been beaten beyond the death of a horse, but I will add my two cents worth despite my better judgment.
First, in reply to Mr. Sebo. While I do not follow the career of Janet Jackson closely, it was my understanding that her new "album" (when was the last time music was actually released in album form?) was released shortly AFTER the Super Bowl, so I don't see how the "incident" could have been contrived to boost sagging record sales.
Beyond that, I think William Shakespeare wrote a play about this whole affair. It was entitled Much Ado About Nothing.
Not to discredit Vicki's concerns about violence against music, but it seems pretty hypercritical to me that CBS is so upset about this alleged showing of Ms Jackson's breast, while they refused to run the commercial produced by MoveOn.org detailing the many lies told by the Bush White House. What is the bigger offense? A split second of Ms Jackson's breast, it's nipple completely covered or the 500+ dead American men and women who have died as a result of the Bush lies about Iraq?
IF CBS has egg on it's face over this stunt, perhaps we can chalk it up to karma.
One final thought, What really offended me about the Super Bowl half-time show was that it was over half an hour long, twice as long as a regular half time period, distracting those of us who actually tuned in to watch what was a very good football game. At least considering that the Green Bay Packers weren't involved in it.
