I agree that Cedar Valley is wonderful--it was one of the places I thought
of when Phil asked the question. Also Traditions in Onalaska and of course
there was Sprigs in Rushford which folded because they just couldn't raise
the capital to stay open after renovating their building. The Hillside and
Arctic Springs are also good as are Piggy's and the Freight House in
LaCrosse--those are more traditional supper clubs--which we haven't seem to
be able to support in Winona, hence the loss of The Hot Fish Shop We've
even been to the St. James Hotel in Red Wing or Fanny Hill in Eau Claire
when we've wanted something really special, too. There are also very fine
restaurants in Lanesboro, which is an outstanding example of a town that has
carved out a niche for tourism.

I have no idea what the secret is to that success, but hope that there is
and will be continued support for downtown revitalization.
