[Winona Online Democracy] Well said, Janice. I agree that we need to keep our focus on the issues. I think it is more than possible to disagree with a person's opinion without making judgements about the individual.
I recommend that all participants avoid "jabs" even if intended as good natured humor--at least regarding this apparently extremely sensitive topic. So many are invested in the outcome of these decisions, it seems essential to keep folks engaged and minimize the risk of offense. I think it was Craig who recently posted some data about how so much is lost without the nonverbal context of our e-communications. I think this is particularly true with e-humor. Just my opinion. I don't think it is reasonable to try not to offend anyone, but it seems only right to have the best of intentions not to offend if we wish to set high standards for civility--something that I think the majority of WODers would like.
