League of Women Voters, Winona Unit Calendar of Voter Service Forums:
September and October 2004
The Steering Committee has set the General Election forums. They are noted
below. Co-sponsoring organizations to date are: AAUW, Women�s Resource
Center, Winona Area PTA Council and Winona On-Line Democracy. The forums
will follow the MN LWV state voter services guidelines for a moderated
educational forum.
General Election Dates:
Tuesday, September 21 � Winona County Board Districts 3 & 4
Wednesday, September 29 � City of Winona: Mayor& Council Positions At
Large & Ward 3
Thursday, September 30 � Winona Area Public Schools Board
Districts 4 & 5
Wednesday, October 6 - MN House of Representatives
Tuesday, October 19 - Winona County Soil & Water Supervisor District #3
All forums will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM for races with six or more
candidates. Some forums will be from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. The location for all
forums will be the council chambers of the Winona City Hall, 4th and
Lafayette Streets in Winona. We ask that all volunteers arrive at 6:20 pm
for instructions on the order of the forum and to be ready for a live public
access cable TV broadcast. Radio and newspaper media are also invited to
attend. There are several tasks to do to be ready, like hanging up the
posters for your organization to acknowledge all the forum sponsors, setting
up all the chairs, checking the telephone line and putting out water for our
candidates at the Board table. We also need your help after the forum to
replace items and close City Hall.
Other Items Regarding the Forums:
STATE GUIDELINES ARE BEING FOLLOWED AS WE HAVE RECEIVED A LOCAL GRANT TO
FUND THE PUBLICITY AND OTHER EXPENSES.
THE WINONA LWV WILL PROVIDE THE MODERATORS FOR ALL FORUMS.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED FOR EACH OF THE DATES.
LWV MEMBERS AND CO-SPONSORING AGENCIES PLEASE VOLUNTEER BY SEPTEMBER 30,
2004 WITH NAMES AND DATES FOR THE FOLLOWING VOLUNTEER POSITIONS. We welcome
everyone to volunteer for more than one forum!!! (THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE
VOLUNTEERED SO FAR!!)

DUE TO THIS VERY BUSY ELECTION VOTER SERVICE SCHEDULE THE STEERING COMMITTEE
(Pat Nolan, Jeanette Steiner, Marion Hopkins, Sharon Ropes, Nancy O�Reilly,
Kay Shaw, Gail Bradbury, Sue Brown, Pat Bailey and Lynn Theurer) agreed
General LWV membership meetings would start in November. The regular date
in November is November 11, 2004, Veteran�s Day. We think this would be a
great day to celebrate the election results with our co-sponsors. The time
will be 7 PM that evening�place to be determined!
