[Winona Online Democracy]
My understanding is urban sprawl can include housing, shopping centers, highways, etc. If unplanned, sprawling development can end up being very costly; both in terms of service and maintenance costs to a city and taxpayers, and ill effects on the environment.
I would be watchful of:
- unchecked and poorly planned development
- proposals that do not address our special geology and natural environmental beauty
- what future consequences a plan will bring - both positive and negative
By creating well thought out plans for development in advance, these issues can be proactively addressed and positively managed. I believe in encouraging community and stakeholder collaboration in development decisions; the results of which will aim to make development decisions predictable, fair to all concerned and cost effective.

Thank you to the local candidates who have posted to Winona Online
Democracy; Debbie White, Dave Kouba, Jerry Miller, and Paul Double.
It's a great chance to have your views presented in your own words and not
be quoted out of context in a miniscule sound bite.

To all the City Council and Mayoral candidates...
1. What do you know about the problems about urban sprawl?
2. What would be the problems you would be looking out for and trying to
prevent before they happened?

On the national level...
While our local debates are well done, non partisan, and fair, our
presidential debates are a farce.
Did anyone have a chance to watch the Bill Moyer's news program on PBS
Friday night about the Commission on Presidential Debates?
It's chilling.
I w onder if the media is even aware of this very recent history.
