Randy,
I'm also interested in what our legislators have to say about the paragraph
you've highlighted. In case neither responds because of obvious time
constraints, I'd suggest that a look at voting records and previous
comments make it clear that Rep Pelowski has consistently supported a
balanced approach to taxes and funding of education and other public
services. I am less familiar with Sen Kierlin's positions, but my
impression is that he usually aligns with his party's caucus, which during
the last few years has elevated anti-tax sloganeering and policy to the
status of a political cult. If Sen Kierlin diverges from this thinking, he
doesn't seem to do so very publicly.

So on this particular issue, I think it's pretty clear where our
legislators stand, both here and throughout the state. Hopefully the DFL
resurgence in the House will provide a moderating influence, in contrast to
the Governor's anti-tax grandstanding.

(Incidentally, I notice that Gov Pawlenty has recently discovered site
based management, which has been a commonplace in MN schools for at least a
couple of decades, and is pretending that this may solve the GOP-created
funding crisis. Anyone have any thoughts on how that plays out locally?)

"If the world were merely seductive, that would be easy. If it were merely
challenging, that would be no problem. But I arise in the morning torn
between a desire to improve the world, and a desire to enjoy the world.
This makes it hard to plan the day."
