Title: Sustainability Series

I'm concerned about the proposed reduction in MinnesotaCare funding at a time when Congress is looking at reductions in Medicaid.  How will the decisions impact local people? I'd like to hear from the healthcare and dental care professionals as well as nursing homes and citizens currently receiving coverage by MinnesotaCare and Medicaid.

Everyone must think seriously about the implications of cuts and be ready to privately accept the consequences. Can you pick up the healthcare and dental bills of family members no longer covered by these programs? Can you welcome elderly parents into your home and provide round-the-clock care that they had been receiving in a nursing home before their Medicaid coverage was cut?  We can wax nostalgically about  the years when our grandparents moved in with us when their money ran out and how we gained from three-generation family life together, but what was it really like? If we return to that lifestyle, we must be commited to take care of our "own."  We must also wonder who will care for those who have no family to pick up the bills. Perhaps, our churches will have to step forward and offer respite care for the uncared for people.  Maybe, that is our 21st century calling.  What do you think?
