[Winona Online Democracy]

Dear Board Members,

I am forwarding additional comments to you from another former Winona High student, Pam Kinzie (class of 1972), now a successful architect (of a number of school buildings) in California.

Phil,

Thanks for letting me know about this.  Please pass on my thoughts to the appropriate people at the school.
Pam

I always thought that one of the coolest things about the building's design was the way the library (symbol of container of knowledge) was a stand alone object in the space of the building and therefore had a certain significant presence.  The sense of space from the balcony as one moves from 2nd floor classroom to second floor classroom overlooking the concourse is also really nice, and gives one a sense of community as one can see students and staff moving about the concourse.  Lastly, of course, is that this plan will severely limit the
view of the exterior grounds from the main concourse (giving it to the administration instead).  Unforgivable error of judgment I think.

The open concourse with the classroom circulation moving about it and the library form an an object building within the space is the signature of the building in my opinion and is what gives the building a memorable character.

I'd rather see less expensive (even modular) buildings placed elsewhere on the site.  There's plenty of land.

My 2 cents worth . . .
