[Winona Online Democracy]

So Bob, I'm thinking that my comments regarding folks' "displeasure" with the changes didn't take into account the historical significance of the building. Mea culpa--I, too, am an architecture fan.

I see there is another interest--an interest in preserving our local history.

Another interest that I didn't specify was that the students feel valued and like they count. I sense that having that view and all that sunlight and enough room to walk through the hallways is one way to feel valued. My bias is that we value students by giving them the educational and extra-curricular opportunities we had as kids! :) At this point that seems impossible without a desire of the state or local community pitching in financial support.

I'd also like to see the teachers feel valued, the Board and Administration and all of the district staff feel valued for they all are valuable--I don't have a sense that the public conversation about the issues leaves any of them feeling that way--at least not an overall feeling. This is truly a shame.

What are some other interests that the community has at stake here?

The members of the school board are the most dedicated public servants that
I can imagine. I would not want their jobs for an instant. I respect them
all.

The reason that I "launched" earlier is because I am very interested in
architectural preservation...most of you know I'm heritage preservation
chair...and the Senior High is a real nice building...I hate to see it
messed with.

I knew the odds on favorite was administration moving to WSHS when the
Lincoln building needed to be vacated....but I did not expect it to be so
extensively altered to accomodate the new tennant.

I just dislike this outcome greatly...there must be other options. Again, I
mean no disrespect to the authors of these recommendations. I thank you for
your efforts. But we can't do this.

In fewer than twenty years this building could be on the National Register
of Historic Places...it's an awesome late 60's building...famous
architect...great location...why destroy a potential legacy for an immediate
need?
