Unless you are there, you depend upon the media to understand the event. We all know that has advantages and disadvantages at times. I think the Winona Daily News did a great job of covering the event. They showed many different sides of the story. Then there is the Winona Post. The Winona Post is the Winona Post. Talk about an interesting choice of pictures for the Winona Post to run. :-< Of the probably dozen pictures or more that were taken by the Winona Post staff that day, why show a picture of three police officers? The police were not needed. I'm not even sure why they were there. That was a surprise to me. I guess someone thought it was better to be safe than sorry. I don't agree with the decision to have them there but I respect the decision. The students were awesome and very respectful during the demonstration. That is what democracy looks like. The "wall of teachers" weren't there to oppose the students. The teachers were there to stand behind and support Dr. Wondrasch and our principals. The teachers wanted to make sure it wasn't reduced to a students vs. Principals thing. We didn't want the principals to have to deal with it alone. Even though some teachers had mixed opinions about the event, we wanted to show that we all support Nancy, Kurt, and Ben and wanted to stand with them. I'm proud of both the students and the principals. It was a great day.
