[Winona Online Democracy]
I am not even a parent at Dakota school and I am
outraged at the nerve the superintendent and school board about the contents of
Dakota.
Why* wasn't all this discussed when it first became
a charter school? Now all of a sudden the district wants money for the contents?
why? What does the district intend to do with these items if the charter school
does not pay for them? Stack them in a room somewhere (like the senior
high concourse?) and then in a few years dump them out on the street for people
to pick through(like the old middle school?).
This is outrageous. Here is a school
trying to educate our young people (who we are constantly told are the reason
behind everything, including tax raises). And the district is making it
hard for them to educate by nit picking about desks and books. Is it
really about money or is the district hoping if they are able to not re lease
the building to Dakota those students will be back in the Winona school system
and thus more tax money coming into Winona?
If* the district does not renew the lease
with Dakota I hope every parent sends their child to either LaCrescent or a
private school.
The district should apologize to the parents
and PTA of Dakota and leave them alone to educate 'the children'.
