[Winona Online Democracy]

I'm delighted to see that Winona has extended these basic protections.  I have many gay and lesbian friends, some of them former Winonans who will be proud to learn of this.  This is just common sense and basic decency.

Subject: [Winona] And Now For Something Completely Different

The city of Winona has ammended its Human Rights' Ordinance to include all state and federally recognized protected classes, which extends housing protections to GLBT people.

I remember the last time the council was asked by the Human Rights Commission to include sexual orientation in the ordinance they declined.  I was in the room that night, and I remember the odor of homophobia.  I'm just curious...are Winonans more tolerant today?  I notice that "the love that dare not speak its name" (LOL...old, old quotation) is still not named in the ordinance.

Just curious if anyone had any thoughts.
