thank you to Mr. Voegli, Mr. Brooks and Mr. Nastrom for your constructive criticism. Yesterday was a long day and I regret painting with such a broad brush. I was a bit disheartened yesterday with WOD, but after playing with Alma this morning and tonight I can see things differently and recognize the value of WOD. I will try not to be verbose and since I am a slow typist I carefully choose my I writing opportunities.

First of all I hope and pray this referendum passes. I do see hope out here in the country. My neighbors are great. They are farmers, welders, machinists, and folks who slug it out at the factory. Pickwick, like Winona is a community of hard working people. SD 861 is a working class one for the most part. The average salary is around 17,500 and asking these folks to increase their taxes is tough because it means more hard work. But many are willing to contribute their share.

I grew up on a wheat farm in North Dakota with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. We raised beef cattle, wheat, milked 70 head, and even with all that my dad had to work out as a welder, heavy machine operator and a crop adjuster. Mom and dad valued education and made tremendous sacrifices for us. Also over 30 years ago my second oldest brother was hit by a train when taking in a load of cattle to the market. He was dad's partner and was left a quad with a closed head injury. From November 23, 1974 onward, at age twelve I learned then and now the value of hard work and sticking together as a team. My dad never complained about taxes and insisted on funding education. He harped on it all the time - the need for a good education for the good of the whole community.

My 77 year old dad is still my role model and I mention this to explain that I was taught and believe in respecting all others. And so I regret my tired comment last night, and express my deepest gratitude for all of us working together to support all community's children.

That said here is another question I will attempt to answer:
Question 8.
Can the referendum be voted on without contracts.

answer -- yes.

reality - no. That is most folks will want to know the costs of the settlement. If each teacher gets a million dollar bonus then we would probably not pass the referendum. If the teachers and SD 861 settle in good faith and in reasonable amount of time and the public views the settlement as fair - and know what they voting on in relationship to the operating costs, then the public will hopefully vote yes on all three but for sure question 1.

Mr. Double - I will have a lunch hour tomorrow or after work on Friday where I can find time to conduct research on some of your other questions. But I will attend to them.

At this point it is time to quit typing and time to grade papers.

Respectfully,

KPH
