Ye Olde Shoppes on Riverbende   Those who questioned the wisdom of turning what was sold to the voters as the Riverbend Industrial Park into a big-box retail area need to consider this: Soon to be located adjacent to Wal-Mart’s parking lot and service roads ( nicely landscaped, by the way, not like downtown ) will be a Madison, Wisconsin developer’s strip mall featuring Winona’s very first Shoppes!   No indication yet that they will be Olde Shoppes, but they could be. Do some historical treatments along the roof line and maybe riverboat styled chimneys, throw in a little Shakespeare, and we’ll be able to offer tourists an attraction that doesn’t require an onerous wait at a railroad crossing or an aggravating search for a parking space.   John N.
