Some comments have been posted on the thread of property taxes and the ability of government to condemn property (under eminent domain proceedings) for public purposes. While this can be disrupting and devastating to the individuals involved, it is not part of a totalitarian dictatorship or monarchy with absolute power corrupting all.

Characterizing the issue with an extreme is just making another red herring. It is enough that the form of eminent domain that profits a specific private enterprise by ejecting a property owner is just plain wrong. And let us not soften it with language like "individuals involved" but address the injured as victims, the
corporation as a thief, and city managers (and perhaps
consultants) as complicit.
A public officer (or private consultant) who claims he
suffers from making such a decision that profits the private company is deluded. He can go home and call
it home; the victim cannot.

There is something fundamentally wrong, Mr. Carlson, when an individual hasn't the same right to ownership of his own home that a corporation has. It IS that simple.

Your last comment regarding the fact that individuals don't
put out their own fires, etc, means exactly what? Are you
implying that by hiring consultants, for example, the
people are intentionally giving up their right to ownership?
Certainly, we can vote out scoundrels, but what can we
do about outsiders such as the corporations and their
shills?
