It would be tremendous for those of us who depend on the price of corn if more vechiles could/would use ethonal. The price for a bushel of corn today is the same as it was in the 1940's and '50's. No one else is working for that kind of pay except the farmer. The government programs to off set the poor price of corn is not the answer. Give me a market for my product.

I'm not familiar with the speaker John mentioned, but I heard an interesting spot on WI Public Radio last week on this topic. The guest was talking about how the use of corn and other agricultural crops being converted to auto fuel (e.g. ethanol) will affect the economy. Basically he was saying that when it becomes a better deal to sell those crops to fuel producers it will drive up the price of food due to competition for the food supply.

An aside was that this speaker advocated develpment of "plug in" vehicle technology to charge batteries with wind energy and to eliminate our dependency on oil and clean up our air in the process.

What do others know about these issues? I'm thinking that this relates locally to our recent interest in wind power and our state's strong agricultural interests as well.
