The insurance companies have more money than the US government. I've little hope that something short of a revolution will fix this situation soon enough for anyone reading this group.

Examine how it works. If you have an insurance policy, but it is not generous but all you can afford, you get enough care to use up your benefits, then coast on luck with inadequate or no treatment, possibly die, while those with no insurance are often billed at a higher rate than the heavily insured - because the insurance companies negotiate with health care providers. My recent surgery was billed at $19,000. The insurance company knocked it down to about $7,000. The hospital continued to bill me as if I didn't read the adjusted bill. Some business persons in the health industry seem to take the default behavior and leave it to the rest of us to beg for parity.

It's not your doctor who is to blame, although I have heard too often, "No, these tests won't show me anything I don't know, but you are insured, so what do you care?" (Not from my current MD, thank heavens.)

More later. I have a physician's appointment. :) Really!
