Whichever "side" you are on in regards to this argument, I think it is
important to step back for a second and take the race issues out of the debate
for a minute( certainly not to disregard them, they are valid points but race
was by no means represented in my argument, I have no problems with the
Mexican/Latino community ).
Lets take a look at the problem from a raw view. We have illegal immigrants
crossing into our border en mass. We have laws and systems in place that are
meant to deal with this problem. We by majority agree the laws in place don't
work and/or aren't being enforced by our government. How do we fix the problem
? Do we enact HEAVY fines on businesses that employ illegal workers? Do we
rewrite all immigration laws? Do passports and documentation for entering the
USA mean NOTHING anymore if you are Mexican (what about other refugees who
enter illegally? wont they feel discriminated upon if we don't just allow them
in undocumented as well?)?
I also found it interesting to read the example of finding hired hands for
the farm...My guess would be you weren't offering a high enough wage for
current market conditions..hence you turned to illegal workers who would work
for a sub market wage..We all talk a big game about fair labor practices and
the "livable wage" etc, but as example from a post right here, when it comes
down to it, that "livable wage" is something for Wal-Mart and other evil "big
businesses"
