Actually, I've found out a bit more. Turns out it's a D-Link card, in a laptop running XP Home edition. I've given the user an Avaya card to try, and the same thing happens. After 5 minutes, it still has a signal, but drops it's ip config. If I do a broadcast ping on that computer, it seems to bring it back. Or if the user does a ipconfig /release and an ipconfig /renew that seems to bring it back as well. Weird...

Turns out that this particular linksys card has a problem with a particular cardbus controller (Texas Inst. I think) for some PCMCIA slots in some laptops (lots of 'somes'). I found an explanation somewhere on www.linksys.com (can't seem to find it now and can't remember the exact details). Anyway, as suggested, I had him upgrade his card to the latest-greatest firmware and the problem went away.
