The recent report sent to this mailing list by U of T made me wonder what University's are doing out there to collect information on their wireless networks. I've been looking for a good way to gather/store/display/aggregate AP statistics. We have a mixed AP environment. Also, I'm thinking statistics as in number of users online over time, throughput over time, throughput per user over time, etc. Cacti, for example, is what I have been looking at to track # of users on an AP. This organizes it pretty well but I haven't had success aggregating the information together to form additional logical groups like # of people on wireless in a building, number of people on wireless for a quad, etc.

What apps/products does everyone out there recommend? What apps/products should be avoided?

In addition to that, what specific metrics have been valuable to gather? What metrics have been of little or no value or not worth the effort to gather them?

I would like to hear about all products that people recommend but specifically, at this time, I'm looking for freeware. (no budget currently and not likely to get one)

Thanks,
Ryan.
