Assuming you¹re Meru network is using a virtual cell design, you could test in a lab whether or not these two clients can successfully connect via a Meru AP without virtual cell enabled. We¹re going through a lot of pain right now at Columbia because of certain Intel chipsets¹ inability to play nice with virtual cell. Meru has some workarounds. Contact your SE.
