Just be cautious and pick your poison. Our Cisco escalation engineer recommended that we should not move to .176 code. Maintenance release code can and in more cases than not, will create new bugs to deal with.

Manoj,
Ask your Cisco engineer to look at SR-609255757 which relates to bugs CSCsq41327 and CSCsq87457. Tell him you want to try the following code.

Product Version.................................. 4.2.130.0
Engineering Special.............................. SR-609255757 (v1)

That version of code has been solid for us since August.

Manoj Abeysekera wrote:
We are also running 4.2.130 for sometime now. However we do have a problem of WLC not forwarding traffic for some users in a totally
random
order. Cisco has found a bug (Hopefully the right bug -Bug ID is CSCsq41327) so we need to move away from the 4.2.130 code. Having
heard
all the concerns about 5.x code I'm not sure what code we should upgrade... It seems, only option would be at this time is to go with 4.2.176.

We are running 4.2.130 since last December. Very stable with no
issues
so far. We have this code running on both WiSM's and stand alone
4400's
and one 2106. We have just under 1200 ap's in production. We are running 5.1.151.0 code on our testbed controller. We are still not comfortable going to the 5 code train yet.

We had serious issues with the version 5 code so we downgraded to the
four code. About 55 days ago we upgrade to version 4.2.176 and it has
been rock solid so far. We have one WiSM with 256 1131abg APs and
about
15 1300 outdoor APs.

Subject: WISM Stability and Load

We have run wisms for two years with different codes(4.0, 4.1 and
4.2).
We have both web auth wlan and WPA wlan(majority of users are on web auth wlan). We have found when wisms are running in a higher load(500-1000 users per controller), they will start to have crash
issue
and web auth issue(web login page not loading). They run very stable when the load is low.

Is this the same case for other deployments as well? I hope someone
can
share following info with me:

1. Are your wisms stable and what code do you use?
2. How many users total and how many web auth users do you have per controller(NOT per wism blade)

Thanks!

After a weekend full of problems on 4.2.112... We are being instructed
to move from 4.2.112 to 4.2.176, and to avoid 5 code. Could use some
input from anyone running 4.2.176.=20

any major bugs?

For us on 4.2.112, we are having random spates of controllers losing
both management and service IP addresses.

Yikes- that ends up being some pretty pricey unreliable hardware. I
have
to wonder if the same class of hardware from other vendors is just as
quirky, but perhaps you hear less about them because of lesser market
share? Or are the WiSMs is a dubious class by themselves?

Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] WISM Stability and Load

We have run wisms for two years with different codes(4.0, 4.1 and
4.2).
We have both web auth wlan and WPA wlan(majority of users are on web
auth wlan). We have found when wisms are running in a higher
load(500-1000 users per controller), they will start to have crash
issue
and web auth issue(web login page not loading). They run very stable
when the load is low.

Is this the same case for other deployments as well? I hope someone
can
share following info with me:

1. Are your wisms stable and what code do you use?
2. How many users total and how many web auth users do you have per
controller(NOT per wism blade)

Thanks!=20

We upgraded to 4.2.176.0 from 4.1.185.0 and we run into a problem that

sometimes the web login page cannot load on client browsers. It
happens
only during peak times. The WPA users seems to be fine. We may have to

downgrade to 4.1.185.0.
