So how long before there's a firmware flash for Cisco APs so they can become
cloud-based? I'm not sure the pricepoint would be any better though...nobody's
in business to bring in less revenue.

My question about this cloud-based technology is why would I want my
"controller" to be cloud based if I already have expertise in managing wireless
networks via the controller model?
Features such as Cisco's Flex (ie local switching) which offload your data
traffic at the switch essentially turn your controllers into "private clouds"
if you want to call it that. Obviously in the "cloud" based you don't have to
buy a controller and your licensing changes, but I'm assuming they get your $
one way or another! Not trying to be snarky here, just wondering what I'm
missing.

Does this mean there's hope for Prime/NCS/WCS/whatever they call the next
interim?

Cisco Systems Inc., the world's largest maker of computer networking gear, said
Sunday it is buying Meraki for $1.2 billion to expand its ability to let
customers compute in the cloud.

Rob Soderbery, senior vice president, Cisco Enterprise Networking Group, said
in a statement, "Meraki's solution was built from the ground up optimized for
cloud, with tremendous scale, and is already in use by thousands of customers
to manage hundreds of thousands of devices."
