Ryan, I agree that it would be great to get an audience with Apple, Google, and others on behalf of Higher Ed. I'd also throw in the printer industry, myself. I believe the closest Educause has come to making these sorts of inroads is with the petition that we started and ultimately sent to Apple on frustrations over Bonjour, etc.
Not sure if the Educause FTE organizational types would sanction or try to coordinate these sorts of visits, but seems like it would have to come from "the front office" to some degree. -Lee From: The EDUCAUSE Wireless Issues Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Turner, Ryan H Sent: Monday, July 14, 2014 9:54 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] Google/Apple/Microsoft High Ed user support group... I think we've all had our share of pains with these various vendors. I think I've had the worst time with Android. Most recently, we've discovered that Android only allows one CA chain to be selected at any time to verify radius server certificates, so the migration plan from godaddy to a private CA isn't going to happen, despite the fact that we've been installing the private CA cert chain on android devices (through cloudpath), in anticipation of this, for over a year. Android installs all the CAs, but can only select one CA to verify. No dice for us, as we don't want people to have to go in and manually change their radius CA verification chain if we switch from godaddy to a private CA.... this is one of many problems we've had with android. Anyway, back to the point. Does anyone know if Educause has a technical group that meets with these vendors to discuss the pain points? It seems like having a high level meeting once or twice a year, with representatives from those companies and some technical leads from higher ed, would be a huge benefit. What do others think?
