I used to prefer e-mail as well, but lately I've appreciated the web site format more and more. Part of the reason is that it's so easy to turn this kind of web site into an e-mail subscription... this is what RSS is made for. That said, the reason I've preferred the web site is the ability to find the content through Google, and I'm not sure something that is publicly indexed is the right place to foster these discussions.
What I'd really like is something that lives in between a Stack Overflow/Stack Exchange Q&A site and a traditional forum/bb format... something that is better at discussion than Stack Exchange, but does a better job of surfacing the truly useful discussions than a forum.
