I do not believe this is materially different than Apple's implementation of randomized MAC addresses. They randomize them while probing wifi networks, so that the device is not unwittingly being tracked or monitored. When the device deliberately connects to an SSID, however, the MAC address remains the same.
Windows appears different in one particular way, to be fair, in that the MAC address will randomize if the user chooses to forget the connection and then reconnect to it.
