Yes .. this issue has been discussed on kismet's mailing list already.
If beacons are disabled on the AP (broadcasting it's ssid) then you will
be able to detect the MAC address and perhaps other things (dhcp, IP
address ranges, etc.) on the AP.  You can obtain the ssid if you happen to
be in the area when another client which knows the ssid attempts to
associate with the AP.  I'm not sure about netstumbler or any others, but
I do know for sure that Kismet knows of this and will recognize the ssid
when another client associates. 

This led to all other sorts of discussion .. such as ways to force clients
to reassociate with APs so they broadcast their association requests.
