I use one in my Win2k laptop, and my friend uses the same card in a Linux laptop. The card works great. It's nice not having to take the card out of the laptop when you want to throw the laptop in your bag. Just pop in the antenna and you're good to go. I haven't had any problems with the antenna. It's quite sturdy. If anything, I'd be more worried about a fixed antenna card...
>From a range perspective, I haven't noticed much difference between this card, a Symbol card, and a Linksys card. They all seem to get similar ranges in my house. This card is supported in Linux with the Swallow driver, available here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~bvermeul/swallow/ Jared Valentine [EMAIL PROTECTED] -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Joey Hess Sent: Wednesday, June 05, 2002 11:42 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [BAWUG] 3com x-jack card Has anyone tried the 3com "x-jack" wifi card[1]? The collapsing antenna looks neat in theory; is it sturdy enough to be practical, and what kind of range does it get? Also, if anyone knows the chipset in these cards, and if they're supported by linux, I'd like to know. -- see shy jo [1] http://emea.3com.com/products/wireless/wls_pcc_xj.html -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
