I was looking to find out what speed's my orinoco gold
card can give me and found that turbo NIC's can give
upto 6Mbps while others just 2Mbps.My orinoco package
doesnt mention it as a turbo,so how do i make out that
it's a turbo card or not?
But one thing i have noticed is that sometimes it
gives me a bandwidth close to 5Mbps while sometimes
suddenly drops to under 2Mbps.Is there anyway i can
monitor the rate so that i know what kinda
applications it can support? I do a lot of multimedia
streaming which is bandwidth sensitive and knowing
beforehand what bandwidth is available is very
important.
I have my cards installed under FreeBSD 4.5 and in
ad-hoc mode with one acting as a gateway to the
internet.

wicontrol isnt much help when it comes to knowing the
exact bandwidth available because when i am getting
5Mbps it shows a TX rate of 11 and the same 11 when i
am getting a bandwidth of only 3.5Mbps.
Hope someone can share some knowledge about 802.11b
throughput and rate control.
Thanks in advance,
Vinod
