Therein lies the point for some, they enjoy making their own as much as you
enjoy your research. They aren't being paid for their research and the time
they spend making their PCA would be unpaid time anyway.

IANAAM, but if one were mass-producing PCAs then there would be the upfront
research on the design parameters and then maybe some slight tweaking on
individual units. You bring up an interesting point re a "commercial PCA",
is FCC approval required for a passive device such as an antenna used with
an 802.11b device?
