Robi,

For converting an RG-1000 to an AP-500 start with:

http://www.personaltelco.net/index.cgi/ApFirmwareSwapping

>From here you will find links to all the various components you need -
like Freebase. (Assuming you are doing it from a Windows box)

A few things that are not as obvious:

A) The firmware for the AP-500 can be found in the RG-1000 Manager
software which doubles as the AP-500 install CD. You have to install
the "AP Manager" which includes the apxxxxx.bin files. (If you look
for the firmware on the Orinoco site it is nowhere to be found.)

B) You can only flash from the LAN interface. (At least as far as I cold
manage) So you will need a hub or null cable to connect your laptop and
the RG-1000 at the same time. I tried using the air-interface and
could not get it to work.

C) Overall the process was flaky but worked in the end. I had to re-set
the AP a few times and at one point it stopped responding until I tried
to connect with the RG Manager and generate an error - at which point
Freebase would work again.

Question for the group - if anyone read this far: can the AP-500
actually NAT? I don't want the AP to bridge - I want a different subnet
for the wireless and wired networks. Freebase seems to allow these
configs, but they don't "take" with the AP-500, and the AP Manager does
not support NATing at all...
