I am not arguing that devices shouldn't have connectors on them, the Rules are specific that you can't mix and match equipment outside of the certification. In the case of Orinoco cards, they do have a connector (debatable if it is "standard") and can mate to antennas such as Orinoco's Range Extender as they are all apart of the same certification.
