Typically you can enter the lat/lon for each location by hand or
by going to the location and mark it.  Once you have the two locations
you can get a bearing from the GPS.  It is actually a great circle
calculation with some fudge factor as the earth isn't perfectly
round.

The problem with most GPSs is they can't tell you which way is north
unless you are traveling.  You really need to bring along a good
sighting compass too.   I would also bring a 7.5 or 15 minute topo
map to get land marks from and a good set of binoculars.
