Hi Greg. I was trying to ask that question without making it sound like it had attitude. ''why would you want to do that?'' kind of sounds like I was being ignorant, but that wasn't my intent. :-)
I just genuinely was wondering how something like Station Server would differ from Linux with their shaping (or Caching or whatever) applications. Station Server is Linux or Free BSD depending on the version and to me, it seems to run the same applications. When we set-up Station Server and Caching, it's running the same Squid that we'd run on Linux so my question was genuine - why would you (or anyone) prefer to run Linux / Squid rather than S-Server / Squid? >From my point of view, something like Station-Server is better suited for the job. It seems less confusing and more dedicated to the task. However, we'd be pleased to figure out how to do the same things in a Linux box as well. We have about a dozen MaxTech 2MB ISA cards (http://www.zcomax.com/htm/xwl420.htm) that MicroTik and Station Server don't support, but there are Linux drivers for them.
