I used clear packing tape to anchor the connector in an immobile state. Then I tapes about 2 inches of the pigtail to the top part of the card.
Presto- no more damaged connectors and I don't worry if I accidentally pull the wire at the wrong angle.

The tiny little push on connectors are easy to use, but it seems like the connector would fall off rather easily.
Do any of you have clever solutions to this?
