I bet there are more than you might think - the way the poster described it it was a fluid network - folks may power off their APs, or radio propogation may radically change, or folks may decide they don't want to play in the mesh... all of which would force a network restructure. Similar to the mobile ad hoc issues. But I agree, it's not a 100% match - but there is work happening in the IETF in that area. Interested parties should join that WG mailing list.
