With regard to the solution of a PSTN / IP gateway

I have been reading through the documents at www.vovida.org SIP
Residential Gateway software, if I understand it correctly. I install
this software on my Linux (clarkconnect (RH7.3)) gateway, plug this
gateway into the phoneline and make phone calls from anywhere in the
house via IP?

I am not that worried about the costs as they would all be local calls,
I could even use my IPAQ with a wireless card if I could find client
software.

Is this true? And difficult?

Regards
Richy
