I have noticed that WAP11's can exhibit unexplainable ping behavior after their RJ45 LAN cables are momentarily disconnected. Cycling the power clears the problem.
After disconnecting/reconnecting WAP11 cables do you always cycle the power? I have built a wireless relay system to connect a remote site on the other side of a hill to my network. To do this I used a WAP11 (#1) configured in the Wireless Bridge - Point to Point mode using channel 1 to talk to another WAP11 (#2) on the top of the hill. The WAP11 (#2) on the top of the hill is then connected by a crossover cable to another WAP11 (#3) configured in the Wireless Bridge - Point to Point mode using channel 11 to talk to another WAP11 (#4). This WAP11 (#4) is connected to a network hub. 1. When a Macintosh is connected to the hub it can ping the entire network and access the internet. 2. Two different Windows laptops (one OS is XP the other OS is Windows 2000) can ping the network and access the internet. 3. Two different desktop PCs running Windows 2000 can ping all computers at the remote site but canNOT ping any of the WAP11s or computers in the original site nor the internet. I have tried 4 different network cards with the same result. Additional Information - When the desktops are set up and configured on the original site they can ping all computers and the internet. Taken to the remote site they cannot ping WAP11 #4 (as stated before). When they are brought back to the original site they can ping all computers and the internet AND WAP11s #1, #2, and #3, but they can NOT ping WAP11 #4. All other computers at the original site can still ping WAP11 #4. Changing their network cards brings them back to being able to ping #4. In addition, resetting WAP11 #4 allows them to ping WAP11 #4 again. When a LinkSys BEFW11S4 ver 2 connected to the remote site hub, computers connected to its 4-port switch cannot ping WAP11 #4. At all times the Macintosh and two Windows laptops connected to the remote hub can ping all computers on the network, all WAP11s and the internet. This has me very puzzled. I cannot figure out how this could happen or how to fix the problem. Does anyone have suggestions?
