Thank you everybody for such quick responses. Here is additional information:
On the PC side, I use LinkSys WPC11 ver. 3. I don't see an external antenna connector on this wireless network card. So attaching an external antenna on the PC side is not an option, it seems like.
The version of LinkSys BEFW11S4 is ver. 2. I don't see the wattage information in the spec sheet.
