FCC applications since May 1998 have been electronic filings. The OET Electronic filing site is at

The generic search has a lot of choices by which you can filter your request. Some documents may not be available to the public, usually schematics, block diagrams, BOM, and theory of operation - but sometimes they are.

It seems to me that the FCC is not requiring closed source or even unbreakable countermeasures, but just that manufacturers "take steps to ensure [etc.]". In fact, page 10 of the discussion portion, paragraph 30, talks a bit about using digital signatures.
If the current crop of 802.11a/b/g chips are subject to these resrictions, I would be interested in seeing the applications for equipment authorization to see what exactly are being claimed as the steps that the manufacturers are taking.
Does anyone here know what the process would be to get copies of the applicatiosn for equipment authorization?
