Another try...

The N connector was named after its inventor, Paul Neill (Bell Labs).

The BNC and TNC are the Bayonet and Threaded versions of a connector
co-designed by Paul Neill and Carl Concelman (Amphenol).

Is it any surprise that a 50-ohm connector that shares a designer also
shares some dimensions?
