Hey guys -

(and gals -)

Most self moderated email lists eventually have to deal with advertising
of some sort. Some people hate it altogether and consider it spam, while
others consider it "on topic" conversation (saving $60 on 802.11b equipment
is on topic in their view, even if they don't buy it). I tend to be more
in the latter group, but this post isn't about my opinion this time ;)

Is there a policy that exists today about this? How bout we make one if not?

Something like - it's OK to post stuff for sale, provided what you're selling
is related to the wireless transmission of packet data (no rs-232 links here) -
that would include aps, wgbs, cards, amps, antennas, coax adapters, 900/2.4/5.8
or whatever frequency, etc. but it would eliminate point to point rs-232 links
for not being packet data. It would eliminate video links for not being packet
data. I think we don't care to see those specialty types of hardware here. Or
maybe we do?

I would propose a limit that it be for personal use - i.e. a person has xyz
and wants to sell it. Commercial use - go to ebay and open a store. If you
have to charge tax, it's definitely commercial. If you just got a new lot
of WGB-352's in - it's commercial. We self enforce that one (or not?)
For those people who seem to have an awful lot of AP-350's for some reason at
full retail, we ask them to move to the forsale group to sell them.

I'm sure there are alot of us who have stuff lying around that others could
use like this 10W 2.4G amp thats heating up my room here:-) Nope better keep
it - winter is comming :)

Any ideas on sales posts? I hate to see people have to say "cover your eyes"
when a simple policy we agree on could eliminate it. It doesen't bother me
to see an occasional for sale posting - and if it ever got too bad, we could
always make a .forsale group on the wireless list server for those who care to
subscribe.
