Yes - works like charm - also in combination with a PoE setup. However RS232 is not good on very long distances at 9600 baud - for 100's of meters use a rs232/432 convertor or a rs232 current-loop-converter (rs232C). That easily gets you in the kilometer range - i.e. well beyond ethernet length. Any industrial reseller has them - http://www.lanode.co.uk/ does small orders.
