This doesn't sound like a wireless problem per se... I'm using an SMC 7004WBR (2001 vintage) with Comcast. When I first hooked it up to @home, I had to set the DHCP name to whatever my customer account was/is. Otherwise, the authorization machinery on the net wouldn't let my packets through.
These days, Comcast seems to get confused if I download a lot of stuff over a short period; I generally can resolve the problem by power cycling the cable modem. Again, this is not a wireless issue...
