Some discussion on the personaltelco list about this AP http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.network.wireless.portland.general/16377 suggests it may be possible to re-flash this unit (with Linux maybe?), I added some closeup pictures and part numbers in the comments. See:
http://socalfreenet.org/node/view/164 - main board http://socalfreenet.org/node/view/165 - radio board Does anyone else have insights into the possibility of this? Ideally we'd like to use two of these to create an 802.11a backhaul / relay. If we can re-flash one to create a simple bridge, then perhaps the following would work: Ecomm-wireless has some $65 18dbi 5.3GHz parabolics to use at each end. Total cost thus becomes: 2x$20 (APs: $15 + shipping), 2x$65, 2x$20 SMA-N-Male cables, 2x$10 (POE hack), 2x$20 waterproof cables = $270 total for a backhaul (give or take). Any comments on the feasibility of any of this? thx, michael www.socalfreenet.org PS: main url for dismantled AP is www.socalfreenet.org/proxim8571 -- general wireless list, a bawug thing <http://www.bawug.org/> [un]subscribe: http://lists.bawug.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless
