I've tested a Dlink 900AP+ hw rev C
fw version 2.52

Ap mode, p2p and p2mp works fine. We use several links in this
configuration.
But running an AP + one device in repeater mode runs OK when the distance
was 5 meter. Increasing the distance for more than 20 meter (with additional
antenan gain) it was possible to get some 32 byte ping through, but with
10-50% packet loss. Real traffic was totally unusable. This is (was) not an
option for us.

I have not found any information about how Dlink tested the repeater mode,
or what they mean with repeater. My guess is that it is a marketing hype
that has no real value for real users. There is no specification to be met
and nothing you can test against.

Facing the attitude Dlink has in solving bugs in their firmware I would not
expect them to du any efforts to get this working.

On the pther hand, from a network topology perspective, you do not want to
do this kind of configurations since it is totally unpredictable.

For example;
1) What will happend if a user is in between the master AP and the repeater
?
2) How do you manage the "hidden transmitter" problem ?

Any one with real experience from actually running this would be interesting
to hear from.

/Lars
