What I need is a number to divide the raw data by so that I can make a local copy that looks something like the online version.

Depends on who you ask.  The comp sci answer is:
1GB = 1024*1024*1024 bytes == 1073741824

Of course the harddrive manufactures will tell you that 1GB is 1000000000 bytes
